Castello di Meleto – In Gaiole in Chianti since 1256

The land of Castello di Meleto extend around the medieval town for about 2,470 acres: of these 300 are reserved for growing grapes. Sangiovese is the main varietal used in the production of the Chianti Classico DOCG. Other varietals planted in the ’80s include Merlot and Cabernet, but since the late 90s there has been a process of replanting aimed at enhancing the traditional heritage of grapes in Tuscany, also introducing some white varieties such as Vermentino.

Tasting Notes

Intense ruby ​​red with mineral and small fruit notes, followed by ripe fruit, light hints of toasting and a slightly spicy finish. Large, warm and round, extremely elegant, voluminous and balanced. It has non-aggressive tannins, good acidity and excellent intensity in the finish.

Winemaking

Hand picking and selection of the bunch in the vineyard. Destemming with light pressure of the grapes; maceration and start of spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in truncated conical wood tanks of 53 Hl at a maximum temperature of 28 ° C, for about 25 days.

Stop for 12/14 months in French oak barriques. Refinement in bottle for about 12 months.
